A 110mm flat-field APO for galaxies, on the harmonic mount we recommend most
Why we like the FF110 + AM5N bundle:
- Real room to grow: the FF110 with rings and dovetail weighs 6.76kg (14.9lb), leaving about 8.2kg (18lb) of the AM5N's no-counterweight payload for a cooled camera, filter wheel, off-axis guider and ASIAIR.
- Galaxy reach without a heavy mount: 766mm of focal length frames the Whirlpool, Leo Triplet and Sombrero at a pleasing scale, and the 5.5kg (12.1lb) mount head still goes out the door in one hand.
- No spacing math, no balancing: the flattener is built into the scope, and the strain wave drive doesn't need the scope balanced.
- Worth knowing: the PE200 pier extension is included and worth using: the FF110 is 664mm (26 in) long, and the extra height keeps the camera clear of the tripod legs. You still need a camera and 12V power.
The ZWO FF110 APO + AM5N Harmonic Mount Bundle puts ZWO's 110mm f/7 quadruplet astrograph on the AM5N computerized GoTo mount, with the TC40 carbon fiber tripod and PE200 pier extension. It's a portable, full-frame imaging rig with enough focal length for galaxies and planetary nebulae, and the bundle costs less than buying the four pieces separately.
Key specs: 110mm f/7.0 quadruplet APO, 766mm focal length · built-in flattener, 44mm full-frame image circle · 6.76kg (14.9lb) scope with rings and dovetail · AM5N: 15kg (33lb) payload without counterweight · ±10″ periodic error · equatorial or alt-az GoTo · Wi-Fi and Bluetooth · TC40 carbon tripod and 200mm pier extension included

What you can image
- Galaxies: the Whirlpool, Pinwheel, Sunflower and Sombrero Galaxies, and the Leo Triplet in one frame.
- Planetary nebulae: the Dumbbell, Ring and Owl Nebulae.
- Nebula detail: the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, the Horsehead and Flame Nebulae, and the Elephant's Trunk.
- Visual observing too: switch the AM5N to alt-az mode for detailed views of the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter, and tight double stars.
With an APS-C camera such as the ASI2600MC Pro, the FF110 frames about 1.8° × 1.2° of sky at 1.01″ per pixel; with a full-frame sensor, about 2.7° × 1.8°.
How it sets up
Tripod and mount: open the TC40, set the PE200 on it, and set the AM5N on top and tighten the locking knobs. There's no counterweight to add. Set your latitude with the knob (0–60° in one position, 45–90° in the other) and polar align electronically with the ASIAIR or the ZWO app.
Telescope and camera: slide the FF110's dovetail into the mount's saddle. Because the flattener is built in, there's no exact back focus to hit: anywhere from 42mm to 73mm of spacing behind the M48 thread, you'll reach focus with sharp stars to the corners. The included photography extension tube and M48 and M54 adapters fit dedicated astronomy cameras, and a T-ring connects a DSLR or mirrorless camera.
Control: run the mount from your phone over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, from the included hand controller, or from the ASIAIR, ASCOM or INDI software. The scope's handle doubles as a guide scope mount, and the AM5N's saddle has USB-C and 12V ports to keep cables short.
What to add for the best results
- 12V power (required): the AM5N runs on 12V DC, which isn't included. Use the ZWO 12V 5A adapter at home, the 12V 10A adapter if you'll also power a cooled camera from the saddle, or a 12V power tank like the Celestron PowerTank Lithium Pro in the field.
- A camera (required for imaging): the ZWO ASI2600MC Pro (APS-C, cooled) is a natural match for the 44mm image circle; the ZWO ASI533MC Pro frames single galaxies tightly in a square 0.85° field.
- ASIAIR Plus 256GB: runs the mount, camera, guiding and polar alignment from your phone, and mounts on the scope's handle or finder base.
- Guiding: the ZWO 30F5 Mini Guide Scope with an ASI120MM Mini guide camera on the handle, or the ZWO OAG-L off-axis guider with an ASI220MM Mini for the steadiest guiding at 766mm.
- ZWO EAFN electronic focuser: keeps stars sharp as the temperature drops through the night.
- Light-pollution filter: a 2" ZWO Duo-Band filter in a ZWO M54 2" filter drawer for nebulae from city and suburban skies.
- TC40 tripod case: carries the tripod with the PE200 still attached.

ZWO FF110 + AM5N Bundle FAQ
Is this a good first astrophotography setup?
Yes, especially if galaxies are what you want to image. There's no flattener spacing and no balancing, and the ASIAIR handles polar alignment, focusing and guiding. Longer focal lengths ask for steadier guiding, so start with the off-axis guider or a guide scope from day one.
Which camera works best with it?
An APS-C cooled camera like the ASI2600MC Pro gives a 1.8° × 1.2° field at 1.01″ per pixel, a nice scale for galaxies and nebula detail. The 44mm image circle covers full frame (2.7° × 1.8°). DSLR and mirrorless cameras work with a T-ring.
How much more can the AM5N carry?
It carries 15kg (33lb) without a counterweight and 20kg (44lb) with one. The FF110 uses 6.76kg of that, so a cooled camera, filter wheel, off-axis guider, focuser and ASIAIR fit with room to spare.
FF110 + AM5N or FF110 + AM7?
Both carry the FF110 easily. The AM7 bundle adds payload headroom (20kg without a counterweight) and is the one to choose if you plan to move up to a bigger scope later. The AM5N is lighter and less expensive.
Do I need the pier extension?
It's included, and we recommend using it. It lifts the mount 200mm so the camera on the back of this long refractor clears the tripod legs near the zenith.
Can I use it for visual observing?
Yes. Switch the AM5N to alt-azimuth mode for GoTo without polar alignment, and add a 2" diagonal and eyepieces.
What power does it need?
12V DC, which isn't included. A 12V adapter at home or a 12V power tank in the field both work; size it up if a cooled camera also runs from the same supply.
