A 2.9-pound smart telescope for the night sky and daytime wildlife
Why we like the DWARF 3:
- Two cameras that both image the sky: a 35mm telephoto for nebulae and galaxies and a wide-angle camera for the Milky Way and constellations, and they can shoot at the same time.
- Built-in filters for the city: a motorized filter wheel switches between a daytime filter, an astro filter and a dual-band nebula filter that cuts through light pollution and moonlight.
- Not just for night: tap-to-track bird and wildlife photography, 4K video and gigapixel landscape panoramas make it useful all year.
- Worth knowing: no tripod is included. The DWARF mini tripod with hydraulic head is made for it, or use any sturdy photo tripod with a 1/4" screw.
The DWARFLAB DWARF 3 is a compact smart telescope that finds, tracks, focuses and stacks images on its own, controlled from the free DWARFLAB app on your phone or tablet. Its 35mm f/4.3 apochromatic lens feeds a Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 sensor, and the app shows nebulae and galaxies building up in color on your screen within minutes. It's a good first astrophotography instrument for families and beginners, and a handy travel scope for experienced imagers. It measures about 22 × 14 × 6.5cm and weighs 1.3kg (2.9lb).
Key specs: 35mm f/4.3 apochromat, 150mm focal length (737mm equivalent) · Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 telephoto sensor, 4K · 45mm-equivalent wide-angle camera · about 2.9° × 1.6° telephoto field · VIS, astro and dual-band filters built in · EQ mode with exposures up to 60 s (telephoto) and 90 s (wide) · 10,000mAh battery · 128GB storage · 1.3kg (2.9lb)

What you can capture
- Nebulae: the Orion Nebula, the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae, the North America Nebula and the Heart Nebula, with the dual-band filter for suburban skies.
- Galaxies: the Andromeda Galaxy, which fits in the 2.9° field, plus the Triangulum Galaxy and the M81/M82 pair.
- Star clusters: the Pleiades, the Double Cluster and the Hercules Globular Cluster.
- The Milky Way and constellations: wide-angle astrophotography, mosaics and time-lapses with the second camera.
- The Moon and Sun: lunar craters, and sunspots with the included magnetic solar filter.
- Birds, wildlife and landscapes: double-tap a target in the wide view and the telephoto locks on and follows it.
How it works
Set the DWARF 3 on a tripod, tap your phone to connect (NFC one-touch pairing on supported phones), and choose a target in the app. It calibrates on the stars, slews to the object, focuses and starts stacking. When it's done, one tap runs the app's Stellar Studio processing, or you can export FITS and TIFF files for your own processing.
In alt-az mode it's ready in minutes. For longer exposures and rounder stars, tilt it to your latitude in EQ mode; exposures go up to 60 seconds with the telephoto and 90 seconds with the wide-angle camera.

What to add for the best results
- DWARF mini tripod with hydraulic head (needed): compact, and its head tilts for EQ mode. Any sturdy photo tripod also works.
- Precision Tripod Leveler: levels the telescope quickly on uneven ground for a faster, more accurate alignment.
- A USB-C power bank: the DWARF 3 can run from external USB power for long nights and cold weather.

DWARF 3 FAQ
Is the DWARF 3 good for beginners?
Yes. The app handles alignment, focusing, tracking and stacking, and one-tap processing gives a finished picture. Kids and adults can get a first nebula image on the first clear night.
Can I see Saturn and Jupiter?
You can photograph them and see Saturn's rings and Jupiter's moons, but at 150mm focal length planets are small. The DWARF 3 is at its best on nebulae, galaxies, the Moon and the Milky Way.
DWARF 3 or DWARF mini?
The DWARF 3 has a larger 35mm lens, a daytime filter, twice the storage and bird-tracking modes. The DWARF mini is smaller, lighter and costs less.
DWARF 3 or Seestar S30 Pro?
Both are excellent small smart telescopes. The DWARF 3 has a slightly larger lens, a built-in EQ mode and stronger daytime features. The Seestar S30 Pro has ZWO's popular app and a larger 1/1.2" sensor for a wider field.
Can I look through it with an eyepiece?
No. Like other smart telescopes it's camera-based, and you view the image on your phone or tablet.
Do I need a tripod?
Yes, one isn't included. The DWARF mini tripod is the simplest choice, and any stable photo tripod with a standard 1/4"-20 screw works.
