Frame every target at the exact angle you want, from your phone

Why we like the CAA:

  • Framing without touching the scope: type an angle in the ASIAIR app and the camera turns to it, so you don't have to loosen the camera, rotate it by hand and refocus in the dark.
  • Repeat framing on another night: plate solving plus the rotator brings a mosaic panel or a multi-night project back to the same angle within 0.1°.
  • Adds almost no length: it's 16.5mm thick and replaces the 16.5mm M54 spacer already in most ZWO imaging trains, so your back focus doesn't change.
  • Worth knowing: it needs a 48mm-or-smaller light path and connects with M54 threads at the front, so it's built for ZWO cameras and refractors. Ask us if you're fitting it to an SCT or another brand's camera.

The ZWO CAA (Camera Angle Adjuster) Camera Rotator is a motorized rotator that sits between your telescope and camera and turns the camera to any angle through a full 360°. It's controlled by the ASIAIR, ZWO's ASIStudio or any ASCOM program, and a single USB-C cable carries both power and data. It weighs 465g (16.4oz) and handles up to 5kg of camera, filter wheel and accessories behind it.

Key specs: 0.02° per step · positioning accuracy better than 0.1° · 7.5° per second · up to 2.5N·m load (about 5kg) · 48mm clear aperture · 16.5mm thick · M54 front, M54 or M48 back · USB-C power and control · 465g

What it does for your images

  • Better compositions: turn the frame to fit long targets like the Veil Nebula, the Rho Ophiuchi region or the Heart and Soul Nebulae edge to edge.
  • Mosaics that line up: every panel shares the same angle, so stitching is cleaner.
  • Multi-night projects: return to last week's framing in a few seconds with plate solving.
  • Flats and meridian flips: match your framing exactly when you come back to shoot more data.

How it fits in your imaging train

On most ZWO setups the CAA takes the place of the 16.5mm M54 spacer between the telescope adapter and the camera. With a ZWO FF-series refractor, screw it onto the scope's M54 adapter (with or without the reducer), then attach your camera. Cameras with an M48 thread use the included M48 camera connector. A locking slot lets you hold the rotator still with a hex wrench if an adapter jams.

Plug it into one of the ASIAIR's USB ports and set the angle in the ASIAIR app. In ASIStudio or ASCOM programs such as N.I.N.A., it works with plate solving to rotate to a framing you saved. A hand controller port lets you turn it manually with the optional ZWO EAF hand control.

ZWO CAA FAQ

Does it change my back focus?

Not if it replaces the 16.5mm M54 spacer in your train, because it's the same thickness. If you don't have that spacer, plan your spacing with the CAA counted as 16.5mm.

Which cameras work with it?

ZWO's APS-C and full-frame cooled cameras connect with the M54 thread, and the included M48 connector suits cameras with an M48 thread. ZWO tested it with an ASI461, a 7-position 50mm filter wheel and an extra 1kg, more than 4kg in all.

Does it work with the ASIAIR?

Yes. Connect it to one of the ASIAIR's USB ports and set the angle in the app. It also works with ASIStudio and ASCOM software.

Can I turn it without a computer?

Yes, with the optional ZWO EAF hand control plugged into the HC port.
